When I was a freshman at Caltech, 1964-65, IBM installed a 360 model
63, I think one of only two ever made. After they finished
installation, they executed the "Halt and Catch Fire" instruction, then
replaced it with a 360/67. I kept using the 7094 until I left during my
sophomore year because computer science was dead at Caltech for (at
least) ten years after Don Knuth moved to Stanford.
I think the 360/67 replaced "Halt and Catch Fire" with "Rewind and
Break Tape."
