Unfortunately, museums are no longer a safe place for
donated and rare
artifacts. Paul Allen's heirs just want to keep their $17 billion for
themselves.
Never have been. If there is one thing in life I have learned it's that
the purpose of a museum is not to preserve history.
The purpose of a museum is to destroy history.
Oh the reasons are good: History will be preserved, culture will be
remembered, artifacts will no longer sit in the dirt. But throughout
history, from the Library of Alexandria to the museums of kings to the
Middle Ages, people would pile all of their art, culture, and works into
nice compact buildings.
Then when the ignorant mobs come they have a single place to torch to
remove the heresy and treason counter to the current "beliefs". And it's
all gone.
Think about ISIS, think about what happened in Iraq, think about the
LCM, the Boston Computer Museum, and all of that. Sad but when you find
an artifact in the ground the best thing you can do for it is to cover
it up and forget it existed....
