Perhaps, instead of gravity being .5 G back then,
it was merely only on
half the time? Perhaps being done at a high enough frequency to not be
noticed, similarly to SCR "phase control lamp dimming"?
Yoy may jest, but...
That old-school dimmer is just doing pulse-width modulation. If you tweak
it
slightly and make the pulses equal-weight (e.g. by using delta-sigma
modulation) and call the pulses "quanta" then you basically have one of the
competing credible theories put forwards by proper theoretical physicists
on
how gravity works.
The "high enough frequency" for quantum gravity is of course slightly
greater than 50 or 60Hz.
