But then you're dealing with stored media, and their shelf life. USB hard drives may
be ok so long as USB interfaces are available; if they are USB SSDs that's a different
matter entirely. Those would not be good for a decade on the shelf.
One advantage of setting up a server is that it's more obvious that something has
failed. If a disk on the shelf goes bad, you may not discover it for years, and by then
the recovery may be quite hard.
