The Qume 142 was so slow stepping, that that was one of the reasons for
introducing PC-DOS 2.10, to have a slower step time.
It is now my considered opinion that there is a special corner of
Hades reserved for the designers of said drive. And that they should
be forced spend eternity doing radial head alignments on them.
You loosen off the stepper motor clamp, try to turn the motor body and
find it sticks and then leaps half a dozen tracks. And when you do up
the clamps, the alignment shifts.
ARGH!
