The first VAX 11/780 I used came with 512 KB of memory. One Friday
afternoon, it crashed and I ran diags and found a memory board had died,
and pulled the bad one out. We had to run on 256KB over the weekend
until DEC could come out and swap it. It ran a HUGE finite element
analysis. I warned everybody to restrict number of logons and other
processes.
Your just lucky no one decided to run the Ada compiler. Nothing
can bring a VAX to its knees better than that. Not even Eunice!!
