"raise". I have held in my hands the BSTJ issue with "the" Shannon Paper. I hope Rice University still has its copy. Per wikipedia: "In 1948, the promised memorandum appeared as "A Mathematical Theory of Communication", an article in two parts in the July and October issues of the Bell System Technical Journal." And, no, I didn't understand one bit of it -- other than the significance. (Especially the part about "this is why I am going to have a job.") mcl
