I have no idea.
Though if it's being considered now, it will be considered again at some
point in the future if it's unmaintained.
If it ever becomes a blocker for other parts of the kernel, it's removal
will be expedited. Much -- as I understand it -- how Token Ring was
removed in the 4.x kernels.
