When used with
MS-DOS, prior to

OEM versions of MS-DOS, particularly 2.11 and 3.31 often had changes made
by the OEM. Many minor ones, but also some major ones.
I should have worded that, "V3.31 was the first version of MS-DOS to
support a partition larger than 32MB, WITHOUT vendor/OEM modifications"
Disk formats other than the primary ones were often added by OEMs, such as
80 track, and 3.5" prior to 3.20. There were numerous implementations of
3.5" drives starting with V2.11, many of which were not directly
compatible with the mainstream ones that started with V3.20.
