KCC and parenthesis in preprocessor lines

I'm having some trouble getting Frotz 2.50 ported to TOPS20.  Version 2.32 
with dumb interface compiles fine under KCC.  With 2.50, there are several 
preprocessor lines that include parentheses.  For instance:

#if UINT_MAX == (1UL<<32)-1UL
typedef unsigned int  uint32;
#else
typedef unsigned long  uint32;
#endif

What's a better way of accomplishing this?
