I hate HP 914x tapes

Correct, I meant the 16 or 32 track drives.

There was a document floating around called 'hcdvsqic.txt' that I had recently uploaded to
http://bitsavers.org/pdf/hp/tape/9144
I just found a more detailed document written in Jun, 1989 on the subject that I'm about to upload
that goes into more detail by the same author.

7942 is completely incompatible with the 44 and 45
