The system is designed that way. All the Sparc systems would go to the serial port w/o a keyboard.
I don't know how that is affected unless they have a problem with the timing of the keyboard
powering up or such. the design for the PS/2 keyboard is for the PC, and everyone else that uses it
YMMV.
I recall with Sun keyboards they could be unplugged and replugged and the firmware would allow you
to get them to function (including the L1 button).
I guess you've tried bringing up the system and have no FB / keyboard session, so that won't do much good.
