It is rarely PRACTICAL to repair a dead drive.
If it has important data on it, then repairing or swapping the board is 
sometimes done.  It is extremely rare that there would be a need 
sufficient to justify opening the "bubble".


But, often, drives are identified as being dead or defective, when all 
that they need is to redo the low level format.
