I remember wondering who the $¥€%#<^* had brought a cement mixer into the workshop c. 1996, only to realise the noise was coming from the Micropolis 5.25" HDD in our Novell Netware 3.12 server.  Nasty, nasty things. We renamed them Necropolis due to their propensity toward the data afterlife.
