I picked up a Digi-Data VHS drive with Pertec formatted 
interface at a surplus
shop.  It ALMOST worked, but was pretty clear the heads were 
badly worn.
I did a couple backups with it, then it basically just 
stopped working at all,
went to infinite retries.
