Not to throw a wet blanket on Prof. Schickele's gag, but there *were*
(and still are--Standard Vinyl will cut them for you) 12" 45 RPM LPs.

As a matter of fact, you can occasionally find them offered on eBay.
Somewhere around 15 minutes play per side.
