I think the switch footprints are somewhat compatible between the 
models, though I'm not sure the rocker mounts are.

I don't know about "safe ways", but I did once open the tabs on 
the back of one and replace the metal part of the slider with one 
from another switch that lacked the rocker mounts.  It was a little 
fussy bending everything back "just so".

Which metal part is that?  The bezel is cast, and the light guides are 
drilled fiberboard.  Maybe you mean the switch stabilizer bar(s)?
Or are you thinking of metal instead of plastic for the artwork?
